Hello Young Ladies,
I know that you are excited that school is finally out. YAY! However, it does not mean that your brain is turned to the “off” position. Learning is lifelong and ongoing. If you live in the Abilene area, I invite you to attend the Young Ladies Success Enrichment Workshops this summer. Learn how to find joy in every day by creating a “Joy Journal.” Avoid gaining unnecessary pounds by learning how to make healthy foods. In August, set goals and dreams to have a successful school year by creating a “Vision Board.” This summer is going to be hot, but the sessions will be cool for you!
Parents, as an educator for over 30 years, I have noticed that the students who are involved in extracurricular activities enjoy school more, have higher grades, and less absences. The National Center for Education Statistics posits that “Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. Recent research suggests that participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their school, and thereby decrease the likelihood of school failure and dropping out (Lamborn et al, 1992; Finn, 1993).”
So, what are you waiting for? Space is limited, so go to the “2024 Summer Series” tab on the Young Ladies’ website to register for one of all three sessions.
Be Successful,
Essie Childers, Executive Director
